The Waaskimaashtaau is a community based newsmagazine started in 1996 by the Brighter Futures staff. The name Waaskimaashtaau was given by Luci Salt and means a very bright light from the sun. a star, moon, fire etc. In Luci’s words:

“… it reminds me of the welcome sight of a nice warm fire (especially in the miichiwaahp or an open fire outdoors), the light from the moon and stars at night, or the light that you see when you come to the point of your life where everything falls into place and you can see the direction of your journey through life and your goals more clearly.”

The Waaskimaashtaau is published at the beginning of each month and its objectives are to inform, entertain and teach.

We encourage people to submit news, letters, stories, upcoming events/activities and out of the ordinary ‘things’. Deadline is usually the 28th of every month. Enjoy the read!
