Departments

Employees play a very important role as they are responsible to carry out the goals,
objectives and Policies of the Cree Nation of Chisasibi on a day to day basis.

They are expected to provide services to the community of Chisasibi in an efficient,
effective and professional manner.

Listed below is a general description of the departments located within the Cree Nation
of Chisasibi and their responsibilities.

Administration

- Takes care of the day to day activities of the CNC

Archives

- Keep records of CNC for up to 7 years.
- File and preserve documents.

Benefits and Financial Counseling

- Providing income tax services to the community.
- Providing service for pension, child tax benefits, etc.

Brighter Futures and Building Healthy Communities

- Works on social development programs/projects, which is a specially funded project by - Health Canada
- Have specific guidelines and criteria to follow.

Capital Projects

- Hiring of contractors for buildings, projects, etc.
- Keeping track of all construction.

Cultural Department and Traditional Pursuits

- Responsible for gathering history -artifacts, pictures, stories, etc. and preserving these items. Museum.

Environment

- Water purification
- Spring water
- Land assessment

Finance

- Includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing.
- Look after all the Cree Nation of Chisasibi's finances.

Fire Department

- Provide emergency services and fire prevention programs to the community.

Housing

- Manage the rental housing.
- Landlord for all homes (except private homes).
- Housing maintenance (electricity, plumbing, carpentry)
- Take requests for private home ownership to council and housing committee
- With the housing committee, they allocate lots for private home ownerships.
- Housing inspections.

Human Resources

- Hiring, job postings, training, pension, insurance, retirement, etc.
- All employee and employer issues.

Legislative Department

- Responsible for the community and its residents and presides over and takes part in the activities of the local government and municipal administration.
- Consists of the Chief, Deputy Chief, Administrative Assistant, Corporate Secretary,
Communications Officer and Liaison Officer.

Police

- Ensure the community of Chisasibi is provided with effective and efficient law enforcement. To try to prevent crime and maintain public safety and order.

Public Health

- Inform, educate the public on the well-being on the community.
- Assists with housing inspections.

Public Safety

- Coordinator of the Emergency Preparedness Plan
- Traffic Signs
- Dog Control
- Working towards a 911 system

Recreation

- Provide recreational activities to the community of Chisasibi.
- Organize tournaments.

- Road maintenance for all seasons
